Laundry Don’t Run Me… My Simple Laundry Routine for Busy Moms

GIRL! Laundry used to be one of those chores I absolutely could not stand. That and the bathrooms… but today we’re talking about the never-ending mountains and valleys that used to run my whole household. I stayed overwhelmed because it felt like no matter how much I did, there was always more staring right back at me. For a while, I just shrugged it off like, “Well, this is life.” We lived out of baskets of clean clothes. Dump them on the bed, grab what you need, and throw the rest back in the basket. And listen… keeping it all the way real? That was not a strategy. Not with all these people in this house. We stayed hunting for something—matching socks, a certain shirt, somebody’s favorite sweater. It made daily life way harder than it needed to be. Deep down, I knew I couldn’t keep doing that. It didn’t sit right with my spirit.
So I started trying different hacks. So many. And finally… finally… one stuck!
I’ve been sharing it with all my busy mom friends, and the feedback has been nothing but love. God is truly good!
Here’s what changed the game.... I gave every single person their own laundry basket. That’s theirs—nobody else’s. Each person has an assigned laundry day, and I wash their bedding on their day too. With less to fold, I don’t fall behind as much, and most days, the person whose turn it is puts their own clothes away. IT. WORKS. Towels get done on Fridays (Fresh Towels Friday!), and all the odds and ends get washed whenever they pop up.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes. I’m really curious to see how many of us can find more peace in the rhythm of laundry.
Soon we’ll all be saying together, loud and proud: “Laundry don’t run me!”
